Past Stallions at the stud The legendary DISTELFINK ... his like will never be seen in NZ again. He was with us at the start and put the stud on the map. His progeny included international jumpers, dressage horses, eventers and even the lead equine role in the making of Lord of the Rings! His bloodlines have been retained by the stud as sires and broodmares.

DIOMEDES with rider Phillip Steiner was 1st in 8 classes and placed in another 33 for winnings of close to $15,000. DISCERN LS DISCERN LS was a quiet and lovely type of stallion who seems to pull off the ‘pick of the litter for looks’ title each year! DISCERN LS was a great type of horse with excellent conformation, good nature, lovely head and jumping ability. But in terms of DISCERN himself, of particular strength in his bloodlines is the SOUND REASON which is a good eventing bloodline. His dam was Tailor Maid LS, a very tall good looking mare. Her second foal DAYLIGHT LS was a Grand Prix showjumper with Phillip Steiner before his sale overseas. DAIMLER LS was her third foal. This is a family that has always produced size going back to his great grandmother PHILOHNIAM who was a 17 hand thoroughbred mare whose full sister was GOING GRAY an A grade showjumper with the Illston family. His grandmother was WITZLEBEN by WITZBOLD, reknowned in New Zealand for producing showjumpers MONOPOLY (Canadian showjumping team) and LUDO - both started in jumping with John Cottle. WITZBOLD also produced top dressage horses including MOSAIC, PLAYSKOOL and many others. His dam TAILOR MAID is a 3/4 sister to TRUE STORY LS who sold to the USA as a dressage horse. WATCHMAN - NZ Thoroughbred WATCHMAN did not live long enough to be a major influence on the Longspring bloodlines. WATCHMAN arrived at the stud in his early twenties. He is important however as the sire of WATCHAMACALLIT LS and again contributes successful performance genes to the mix. WATCHMAN was a top racehorse and won over $145,000 including 2 stakes races. Born: Died: Breed Registration: NZ Thoroughbred Colour: Dark Chestnut Height: 16.2 HH WATCHMAN was a top racehorse with 10 wins from 1200 to 2450m including 2 Stakes wins & Aus $147,000. He is a very athletic horse with beautiful paces and excellent muscling. BLOODLINES His pedigree is impeccable including AGRICOLA - the bloodlines of BRILLIANT INVADER and to top NZ thoroughbred broodmare sire ONCIDIUM. A real bonus is that his female (bottom) line traces directly back to MAUREEN who was the dam of FURIOSO xx - acknowledged as the most influential TB sire used in warmblood breeding in Europe.
