DISCERN LS DISCERN LS was a quiet and lovely type of stallion who seems to pull off the ‘pick of the litter for looks’ title each year! DISCERN LS was a great type of horse with excellent conformation, good nature, lovely head and jumping ability. Born: Died: Breed Registration: Colour: Height: BLOODLINES His sire was DISTELFINK and he needs no introduction! But in terms of DISCERN himself, of particular strength in his bloodlines is the SOUND REASON which is a good eventing bloodline. He also goes back to SOVEREIGN EDITION a very good TB racing line and broodmare sire. Experience has shown that good mare lines in racing such as Sound Reason also prove to be top bloodlines for equestrian sport as well. PROGENY Dash of Class LS, Devotion LS

WATCHMAN - NZ Thoroughbred WATCHMAN did not live long enough to be a major influence on the Longspring bloodlines. WATCHMAN arrived at the stud in his early twenties. He is important however as the sire of WATCHAMACALLIT LS and again contributes successful performance genes to the mix. WATCHMAN was a top racehorse and won over $145,000 including 2 stakes races. Born: Died: Breed Registration: NZ Thoroughbred Colour: Dark Chestnut Height: 16.2 HH WATCHMAN was a top racehorse with 10 wins from 1200m to 2450m including 2 Stakes wins & Aus $147,000. He was a very athletic horse with beautiful paces and excellent muscling. WATCHMAN's pedigree is a classic European speed × NZ stamina cross — very typical of 1970s–80s NZ breeding. WATCHMAN was a tough, durable NZ campaigner of the 1980s, typical of the era’s blend of European speed over NZ stamina/bone. He appears in older NZ sporthorse pedigrees, especially eventers and jumpers. He raced in NZ and Australia and in 48 starts he had 10 wins, and 10 placings with earnings over $162,650. He won a Group 2 stakes race in Australia. Longspring acquired WATCHMAN very late in his life but his influence has been retained in both broodmares and the stallion WATCHAMACALLIT LS . BLOODLINES His pedigree is impeccable including AGRICOLA - the bloodlines of BRILLIANT INVADER and to top NZ thoroughbred broodmare sire ONCIDIUM. A real bonus is that his female (bottom) line traces directly back to MAUREEN who was the dam of FURIOSO xx - acknowledged as the most influential TB sire used in warmblood breeding in Europe. His pedigree includes a similar cross of Precipitation as the great Furioso xx but with the added value of Hyperion in the dam line as well. PROGENY He had few progeny at the stud but the most successful of them is our stallion WATCHAMACALLIT LS that died in 2025. Woodstock LS, Wolfgang LS, Wiktoria LS

News > Handling Project Handling Project Meet the new faces of our handling project! Today we brought six young horses in from the back hills to kick off our new handling project. We have a group of 10 four- and five-year-old horses, but as we can't start working with all of them at once, we came up with the idea of putting all of their names into a hat. Izzie, Taylor and Miri each drew one horse at random. Out of the 10 horses, there are only two colts, and as they're both quite wild and the biggest challenge to handle, Vic has taken on both of them. :) James not wanting to be left out is working on rising 3yr old pony Braveheart LS. Starting tomorrow, the real work begins! To follow each horse's handling journey, we'll be posting updates on facebook and instagram. LONGSPRING SPORT HORSES Birthplace of Champions The stud was founded in 1982 with the importation of the fully licensed Hanoverian stallion DISTELFINK from Germany. His first foals were the start of many offspring proving themselves at top level including internationally. Longspring Stud has retained the best of these lines and a number are for sale to discerning riders. Stallions at Stud There is a selection of 6 stallions at stud representing proven bloodlines.
