One of the last foals of Distelfink, Darkminster was broken in and started jumping with his breeder/owner Maurice Beatson before an unfortunate injury to his hoof meant he probably will never compete.
DISTELFINK was NZs leading sire of showjumpers since results were first computerized and he remained leading showjumping sire for 14 years in a row until his death in March 2004. DISTELFINK produced Horse of the Year Winners, Young Horse of the Year, Show Hunter of the Year and national champions in dressage and eventing. He was 3rd on the WBCSH/FEI sires list for event horses in 1997/98 season. His record of success has been unparalleled.
WESTMINSTER was a thoroughbred sire by GROSVENOR out of Apple Blossom by Bismark. Westminster produced many top international event horses. He was a Group 1 winning racehorse winning the MVRC Manikato S., VRC Cantala S., and the ARC Railway H.
Through Pegasus Joy, the dam lines goes back to Ruling and to Head Hunter, both known to produce good jumpers.
Darkminster is standing at Longspring so that he can be managed for shipping semen around New Zealand.
He is a lovely type of stallion – very scopey with a great jump according to Maurice. He is kind and intelligent and relates well to what is happening around him. His first foals are due spring 2009 and are keenly awaited. We are hoping of course that he passes on that beautiful jet black coat with the white markings!
