A truly black Friday for Longspring
Friday, May 13, 2011
It is with much sadness that today we report the loss of one of our stallions. Sunset Sam LS (by Sam I Am LS out of Delta Dawn LS by Distelfink) had to put down after a sudden and severe hernia. Sam was in good spirits this morning kicking his heels up and enjoying another beautiful autumn day in the Wairarapa but that all changed suddenly when he ruptured his abdominal wall – we are not sure how. While only small to start with the swelling and pain became ever more obvious. The vet was called and on his recommendation the hard decision was made to have Sam put down.
It is very saddening how fast things can go from good to bad. Sam will be greatly missed at the stud - his oldest progeny were only 5 year olds and were showing a fabulous talent for jumping just like Sam himself. With his last foals due this season it will be a difficult year but we will look forward to getting out the ones that we have so they can show off what a special stallion Sam was.
